Orphan, Thieves, and other Unlived Lives

Jessica Jobaris and General Magic present “Orphan, Thieves, and other Unlived Lives”

"Orphans, Thieves, and other Unlived Lives" is sourced from our personal research into family dynamics, specifically the mysterious and complex role of Epigenetics in relationship to the origins of our fantasies and desires. The paradoxes inherent in our appetites and fears are revealed in asking: Why do we do what we do, and want what we want? How do the traumas our ancestors endured affect the choices we make? Do they bring us closer towards or further away from our resiliency or the lives we truly imagined we'd be living? What lives are experienced only inside our imaginations, and do we feel we are missing out by not living them...the risk untaken?

Seven intergenerational performers, along with three of Seattle's top-notch design collaborators, have been exploring movement, theater, and performance cumulatively for over 35 years! Featuring and in collaboration with performers: Carie Esquenazi, Leah Crosby, Jason Franklin, Gina Malvestuto, Hannah Rae, Melissa Sanderson, and Maia Veague. Featuring scenic designer Grant Bowen, composer/sound engineer Bradley Laina, light designer Michelle Mann, and stage manager Heather Mayhew!

JESSICA JOBARIS & GENERAL MAGIC
Under the direction of artistic director Jessica Jobaris, General Magic is the fluid group of performers who are key collaborators on her creative projects. A diverse range of backgrounds, bodies, ages, and identities facilitate the investigation and practices of resiliency, absurdity and the sacred.

General Magic examines the intersection of everyday Life to the Supernatural world, using aspects of ceremonies, rites of passage, personal ritual, shamanism, bodywork, meditation, inebriation, dance training, BDSM, music, improvisation, and humor, all in service of elevating intuition and connection.
